Using the Worm Factory 360 Worm Composter

tray system Worm Factory 360 WF360B Worm Composter Review

The Worm Factory 360 provides a standard 4-tray system that is easy to install and use. It comes with all the accessories you need including an instructional DVD. You can expand the Worm Factory with an additional four trays, making it the largest worm composter available in the market.

If you are just getting started, however, you won’t need extra trays yet. For now, a 4-tray system can accommodate 8,000 to 12,000 worms that can process 5 to 8 pounds of food scraps per week. Worms reproduce to match the volume of available food. Worm composting is a self-contained and self-sustaining process. Once you have your worms happily eating and reproducing, you will not have to buy new worms in the future.

Worm tea can be collected at the base of the Worm Factory. This is the waste liquid processed by the worms and it is rich in plant nutrients. A spigot at the base allows you to collect the worm tea easily. The worm tea can be diluted and used as an organic fertilizer or foliar spray.

Indoor Worm Composting

The Worm Factory is self-contained and can be used anywhere. Because it is compact, apartment dwellers with no available space outside can use it in a garage, deck or kitchen. Food waste can be recycled and turned into rich vermicompost for the garden. This is a great way to help the environment.

Traditional composting is done outdoors but with the Worm Factory 360 WF360B you can do your composting indoors. When done properly, worm composting is odorless and clean.

To begin composting, place a handful of worms and food scraps or kitchen waste at the bottom of the tray. The worms will start processing the waste after a few days. You can put waste into all the trays to get them ready for the worms to eat. Once the food in one tray is all gone, the worms will migrate up to the newly added food, leaving behind a tray full of fertile compost.

The moisture produced when the waste materials break down will percolate through the compost, taking along some of the nutrients in the mixture.

Ideal Environment for Worms

Homemade versions of the worm farm are not as efficient and cannot compete with the Worm Factory. The Worm Factory 360 is designed with a ventilation system that draws fresh air continuously from all four sides of the worm composter. The process of composting produces heat and too much heat can kill the worms. With proper ventilation the warmer air escapes through the top while cool, fresh air comes in and provides a healthy environment for the worms. The presence of air also aids in degrading the food waste rapidly. This will prevent bad odors from developing.

I have it on my very small screened in porch…(read more here: Worm Factory 360 WF360B Worm Composter Review)”

“It’s been about a month and my worms seem happy and contented in their bedding. I started with one tray, then gradually added 2 more. They are moving up and down the trays, getting into the food scraps at each level. I shred old newspapers, dip them in rainwater, squeeze out to “damp-sponge wetness”, then spread it around…(read more here: Worm Factory 360 WF360B Worm Composter Review)”

  1. Compost King says:

I agree with you that homemade worm composters are just simply not as good as the worm factory. normally I would encourage people to have ago at constructing themselves but it’s just not worth the hassle with the worms and the worm factory is so easy to use and even move if necessary.
