A summer garden would be a lovely sight especially if you can maintain it well. Here are some tips:
On Watering
Water your plants less often. You’re saving water and you’re treating your plants better, too. For majority of fruits and veggies, just soak the soil with half-inch of water every three to four days. You’re minimizing water loss and you’re helping the roots become stronger.
Water the plants early during the day, so they can absorb more moisture before noontime when the sun could dry up the soil.
Avoid watering at night so soil would not be damp. Otherwise, slugs and fungus may be encouraged.
Watch how you water plants in containers. These plants could dry out easily but they could be over-watered, too. Maintain a balance.
Plants absorb water through their roots. You can use a pot with holes at the bottom. Place the potted plant in a larger pot with water. The liquid can get absorbed from the bottom up.
Line your hanging plant baskets with Sphagnum moss to help retain water.
Trim the flowering shrubs and trees when needed.
High humidity is a problem in maintaining a summer garden. Water the plants properly to lower the chances of developing fungi.
Choose aromatic plants you can enjoy. Here are some:
Basil herbs
Citrusy Valencia tree
Fennel herb
Lavender
Mexican Orange flowering shrub
Night Bloomers like the moonflower
Thymer
Lemony Verbena
Scented vines like honeysuckle, jasmine, or climbing rose
