Some people prefer to have their own garden and grow whatever veggies they want. This can give them extra income and this can also allow them to harvest fresh veggies that they can serve at their dining table. However, not all houses are spacious enough to make a room for vegetable gardening. The space may not be able to accommodate the needs of the plants that the gardener desires.
If this is the problem, then perhaps the straw bale gardening is the solution. This type of gardening is recommended to those who wish to set up their own gardens but the space for planting is limited. This type of gardening can be even set up in a balcony.
The first thing that you have to do is to gather your straws. Wheat straws are highly recommended for straw bale gardening. Lay the straws and run the strings around, making it a point that the string will not touch the ground. Make sure that no weeds are visible. Once you are done, you can now shape your straw bale gardening into whatever layout you fancy.
It will take around seven days for the bales start to decompose. You have to keep the bales wet the first few days, and then leave them set for the remaining. The bales well begin to heat up, During this process, do not apply any fertilizer and keep on pulling out the weeds that show through.
When the bale has totally cooled down, you can start transplanting the plants. Be careful not to cut the string when using a trowel as you insert the plants to the bale. On the other hand, if you are planning to sow seed, better to add a healthy soil on top of the bale.
When your bale gardening is already okay, bear in mind not to overcrowd it with plants and water daily.
I found a six part series on You Tube that explains Straw Bale Gardening set up, step by step. The video is not the best quality, but the speaker seems to know his stuff.

Straw bale gardening is one of my favorite methods! It’s fast and easy and the look of the gardens are fantastic.
I strayed one of my straw bales one year with a moss mix so that the bale was moss covered then planted flowers and herbs on the top. What a great look.
Another thing I like about a straw bale garden is if you need extra gardening space or decide to make a garden at the last minute, you can easily set one up. (great article!) Denise
